I count myself lucky to be the new owner of a stately 19th century New England home, complete with butler's pantry and winding stair. The only blight on its historic character? A nasty chain link fence which surrounds the entire yard. And so I've been investigating hedges.

Hornbeam Hedge in Pennsylvania. A sheared fastigiate European hornbeam hedge (under-planted with liriope) lines a driveway in Villanova, PA. Designer John Shandra of Gale Nurseries wanted to create a sharp, clean line between public and private space.

New England Clam Chowder. This is amazing!  I didn't use the extra clam juice it calls for just what was in the clams and it was plenty, anymore and I'm afraid it would taste to fishy. Taste just like what we are in WA last week.
