(Pictures from Wikimedia Commons) Carcassonne is a fortified town in the South of France. Founded by the Visigoths in the fifth century, the fortress was restored in 1853 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Carcassonne is a really nice fortified city that you have to see. There is guided tour of the medieval city and Bastide Saint Louis in French, English or Spanish. During the summer, there is The Carcassonne festival with nearly 120 shows (opera, dance, theatre, music, ...).
