THESEUS - Was the mythical founder-king of Athens and was the son of Aethra by two fathers: Aegeus and Poseidon. Theseus was a founder-hero, like Perseus, Cadmus, or Heracles, all of whom battled and overcame foes that were identified with an archaic religious and social order. As Heracles was the Dorian hero, Theseus was a founding hero, considered by Athenians as their own great reformer:

Theseus- Greek myth: a demi-god hero, son of Aethra and poseidon, who killed the Minotaur that lurked at the center of King Minos’ labyrinth. Theseus found his way out of the maze thanks to the priestess (and princess) Ariadne and her ball of thread

Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete and half sister to the Minotaur Asterion. When greek hero Theseus came to Crete to slay the Minotaur, she fell in love. So strong was her love for the hero, she aided Theseus in both the slaying of the Minotaur and escaping the Labyrinth where the monster was imprisoned. Theseus is a legendary hero from Greek mythology who was considered an early king of Athens. Famously killing villains, Amazons, and centaurs, his most celebrated adventure was his slaying of the fearsome Minotaur of the Cretan king Minos. (By Mark Cartwright) --AHE

Theseus

Black-figure vase, Greek, dated around late early century BC. The vase depicts Theseus killing the Minotaur of the Cretan labyrinth, with a female figure (suggested to be Ariadne) standing to the right of the scene.

Theseus had two fathers, Poseidon and Aegeus, and he famously defeated the Minotaur. If Theseus survived his fight with the Creature he was to sail into Athens with white sails. Forgetting this, his ship kept their black sails. Aegeus saw the sails, and assuming his son was dead, jumped into the Aegean sea and drowned.

The Immortals, not a really great movie, but it brought Henry Cavill to the attention of the world.
