Finding yourself is not really how it works.⠀ You aren't a ten dollar bill in last Winter's coat.⠀ You are also not lost.⠀ Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people's opinions and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are.⠀ 'Finding yourself' is actually a returning to yourself⠀ An unlearning⠀ An excavation⠀ A remembering who you were before the world got its hand on you. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ - Emily McDowell⠀
I woke up to the surreal smell of bushfire smoke seeping into my house. Tucked away safely in the suburbs of Melbourne and yet the fires are so extensive and wide spread that the air is hazy and the smell is intense. 12.5 million acres around us are burning. Half a billion animals have died in the fires, families have lost loved ones, and tens of thousands of Australians have also been forced to flee their homes. "Head and heart, rational and spiritual, need not stifle or silence one another" - Maria S. Guarino As we head into the season of holidays and celebrations, we also face the reality of a new year and a new decade. I have made the choice to ride the spirit of renewal and as I come across new challenges, both physical and emotional, I hope to open my heart to the idea that life doesn't always have to be one way or the other Sometimes it can be both Image courtesy of…
In our modern world it is extremely tricky to cut out all toxins and chemicals (many with indeterminate long term side effects), but each time we find a natural alternative, we take one step closer to cutting down our exposure and the associated risks. I have recently discovered how to make this extremely effective, yet easy, multifunctional cleaner. The best part - it contains no harmful chemicals. I have found this exercise to be so enormously useful and settling through the years. Sit down soon after you wake up and definitely before the craziness of the day begins and just write......don't think about what you want to say or what you have on your mind, just let your pen find the words on the paper and let it flow... I think that this is a way to access your subconscious thoughts and feelings without your logical brain highjacking them before they make their way to the…
"Filling your sails with Gratitude is the most joyous way to journey down the river of Life.” - Peter Sage I have been listening to Peter Sage's audiobook 'The Inside Track' What an amazing and inspiring man....as soon as I am finished, I going going to start over and listen to it all over again. I am sure I could re-listen a hundred times and each time I would take something new from it. Highly recommended!
What strikes me is how completely and unashamedly she is just being herself. She is the nurturer, she is the 'cool kid', she is the joker, she is the princess, she has a soft heart and yet still she is the warrior. ⠀ ⠀ Wouldn't it be so amazing if we could hold onto a piece of our childhood innocence and the lack of self consciousness and wear whatever makes us feel like ourselves, who we are and who we want to be, and share it with joy. ⠀ ⠀ Here's to all the princess warriors!!
Designing new wash care labels. If we could make the connection between the garments we have in our wardrobes and the humans involved in each and every step of the process, from the crops that were planted for the fibres, to the pressing and packing of the final garment, I think that we would be able to make more conscious choices when it comes to buying and caring for our clothes.
