The mistreatment of older people is increasingly recognised internationally as a significant abuse of elders’ human rights. ‘Scandals’ and inquiries into the failure to protect older people from abuse in health and social care systems rarely address, and still less challenge, the social, economic and cultural context to the abuse of older people. This book makes a strong case for the development of ethically-driven, research-informed policy and practice to safeguard older people from abuse.

Description: This book is a critical history of an archetypically modern sexual syndrome. Reay, Attwood and Gooder argue that this strange history of social opportunism, diagnostic amorphism, therapeutic self-interest and popular cultural endorsement is marked by an essential social conservatism: sex addiction has become a convenient term to describe disapproved sex.

Description: Management has been one of the driving forces of the last century, indeed an idea and a language that colonized most other institutions, areas of human activity and walks of life, even those that had until recently been regarded as completely unmanageable, such as art, academia and creativity. Some it supported and others it destroyed, but there are few areas in modern societies that have been untouched by it.

Description: A founding father of behavioral economics (Chicago Tribune), Richard H. Thaler has spent his career investigating the radical notion that the central agents in the economy are humans error-prone but predictable individuals.
