I just finished designing and building this desk. Generally when creating something it's most comfortable to do what's natural and common because you've seen it and done it so many times. But it can be intimidating trying to do something unique and new because a lot of times it doesn't result in a warm, comfortable feeling. With this specific design & build, I questioned each step and tried to find ways to build something unnatural and comfortable. I am happy with the results.
