Artek Bench 153A

Artek Golden Bell Pendant A330S Brass
The Golden Bell by Artek is made from steel with a painted white interior. It was created by Aino and Alvar Aalto who were commissioned in 1936 to design the interior of the Savoy Restaurant in Helsinki. Made from a single piece of brass, the elegant Golden Bell was a part of the restaurant’s interior. It was shown in the Finnish Pavilion of the Paris World Expo in 1937.

The tea trolley was inspired by British tea culture, which Aino and Alvar Aalto had become acquainted with though their many travels, as well as by the Japanese woodwork and architecture they admired. With a frame composed of two birch lamella loops, Tea Trolley 901 features two shelves and a solid birch handle. Twin wheels, in combination with the lightweight quality of birch, mean the trolley can be easily maneuvered and parked at will.

New Height on The Classics
Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The business strategy of the company was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means”. The founders of Artek advocated a new kind of environment for everyday life. They believed in a grand synthesis of the arts and wanted to make a difference in architecture and design as well as in town planning.

Artek Rival Chair KG002
The legs are milled from one piece of solid birch, taking on a fluid quality more similar to moulded plastic than timber. The backrest of KG002 provides support for long periods of sitting while the low back of KG001 offers a high degree of flexibility, defining the sitter's range of movements.
