Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) was a Finnish designer and sculptor, a major figure of post-war design. The range of his work was immense, from plastic ketchup bottles and metalware to glass, ceramics and plywood in a range of styles to graphic art including the design of Finland's banknotes in 1955 to stoneware, jewelry, and furniture for mass production to individual sculptures in several media. Wirkkala earned honors in numerous international exhibitions.
