Scream, 2007 (Age 11) Pastel on paper 18 by 24 inches My rendition of Edvard Munch's "The Scream" from 2007, showing an understanding of landscape foreground middleground and background, with a color scheme not reflective of the tone. Despite understanding what a scream was, my understanding of color and markmaking is lacking here, with more focus on filling space and depicting literal "grass," "water," and "sky."

Slorgs, 2007 (Age 11) Twistables (crayon) on notebook paper 8.5 by 11 inches An illustration of various Slorgs, some colors that exist in Neopets but mostly those that don't. In Neopets, the "Grey Paintbrush" would not only turn your pet the color grey, but also make them terribly depressed. That binary between extremely sad and extremely happy haunts me to this day.

Rhino, 2007 by TerribleSaturn on DeviantArt

Rhino, 2007 (Age 11) Linocut print 8.5 by 11 inches My first print, a portrait of a Rhino in a field with my signature sun in the corner, printed in black ink. It is evident that my ink application was uneven, yet the noise adds an aged feel to an already aged piece.

Cherry Blossoms, 2007 (Age 11) Acrylic on paper 18 by 24 inches The mark-making in this piece is very consistent, repetitive and clearly shows the paint application and reveals that I did not clean my brush. (Notice the green paint in the clouds.) The color-scheme however is literal yet diluted, with a green that looks more natural than artificial and an off blue that adds character to the piece.

Pattern, 2007 (Age 11) Marker and pen on paper 18 by 24 inches This assignment for this artwork revolved around creating a template that you could trace and repeat, creating a seamless illusion of fish eats fish. I remember being so proud of this monster fish design, amazed that it would fit together so well. Such patterns are reflect my life-long love of fabrics.

Trees, 2007 (Age 11) Marker and watercolor on paper 18 by 24 inches A landscape of tree silhouettes from smallest to largest, cloaked in the colorful fog of sunrise. The height could be interpreted as growth or perspective, with the transparencies of the paint varying depending on the amount of white pigment in each hue.

Blue, 2007 (Age 11) Glue and pastel on construction paper 18 by 24 inches A self portrait of sadness, a blue and purple portrayal of the concept of "sad" in an 11 year old's brain. Of most interest are the eyes, seemingly bright with tears, and the integration of glue into the lineart of this piece.

Portfolio (Back), 2007 (Age 11) Graphite and marker on notebook paper 18 by 24 inches The back side of Portfolio 2007, showcasing more ice cream and an abstract sculpture-like sketch. Using rudimentary "perspective" lines and overlapping, I often drew cubic, geometric forms on my papers at school.

Garbage, 2007 (Age 11) Graphite on paper 18 by 24 inches Another exercise on perspective, with many signs implying little stories behind each one. I remember going across the page, filling nooks and crannies, and despite the details, the landscape remains quite stark.

The Factory, 2007 (Age 11) Graphite on paper 8.5 by 11 inches An exercise in perspective, I rememer drawing this and feeling ashamed of how un-creative it waws. Sure, a factory doesn't seem to be the most exciting subject mater, but my interpretation of a factory? Strange and surreal considering no factories actually look like this.

Soccer, 2007 (Age 11) Graphite on paper 8.5 by 11 inches (Note: Needs to be re-documented) The popcorn-esque cloud pattern was clearly a point of interest for 11 year old me, reminiscent of doodles and sketches I draw even to this day. There seems to only be two variations of person: Male with short hair and female with long dark or light hair. Patterns. Also I had and still have no idea how Soccer works.

Loundon Bridge is Falling Down!!, 2007 (Age 11) Pen on notebook paper 5 by 7 inches This illustration of the popular nursery ryme was likely drawn after I was shown a video of bridge being torn apart by a storm in school. Some details to note are the waving concrete and lady floating above the wreckage.
