In this image Mrs. Cora Ann Bowen works as a cowler at the Naval Air Base. Mrs. Eloise J. Ellis on the right was a senior supervisor in the Assembly and Repairs department, August 1942.  During World War II, some 350,000 women served in the USAF, both at home and abroad. "Winnie the Welder" worked at a boat-and-sub-building yard in the Fore River shipyar. Her name was Florence “Woo Woo” DiTullio Joyce (1921-2014). Her male coworkers used to give her catcalls all the time, so she decided to paint “Woo Woo” on the back of her jacket, October 1943.
