TIKAU Square felted carpet design Taina Snellman, size 125 x 175 cm. Tikau felted rugs are processed and embroidered by hand in a few artisan family communities in under developed areas of Kashmir. The embroidery technique used to make these felted rugs is called the “Ari” technique. Because the rugs are handmade, each of the rugs is unique and reflects the signature and style of the artisan who has made it.

Ecological banana fiber items are hand crafted by local artisan women in South India. The programme was initiated with the aim of providing better income, social status and empowerment to the local women. The material used for the bags and baskets is the locally available banana fiber made out of the “dead” leaves of the banana trees. These leaves, previously considered as waste, are now getting a new life in the form of contemporary and sustainable items.
