The idea behind these socks is applying the look of a classic Selbu mitten into a sock construction. So, the back of the mitten hand goes along the leg and instep of the sock, whereas the palm pattern goes under the foot, the rib for the cuff, and the stripy thumb gusset for the sock gusset. And just like classic Selbu mittens, these socks have columns along each side with a lice pattern spine.

The shaping pattern was adapted from an embroidered shirt from Russian, and the stripe from a border on a knitted sweater from Latvia.
