Finnish Karelian family, ca. 1945, of Alpo Rautia, evacuated from Karelia as a result of the Second World War, has been allocated land and is now building a homestead into the forest in Askola, Southern Finland. In many cases, including this family, the homestead was but a plot of forest. The house needed to be built and the fields had to be cleared by the family.
